Learning Architects

Currently reading Peter Block's 'Flawless Consulting' 2nd Edition, 'A Guide to Getting Your Expertise Used.' Can highly recommend it on what I've read so far. Key learning points are focused on facilitating that the client (whether internal or external) becomes the intelligent customer through both the provision of technical expertise and relationship support. The key difference between a consultant and manager is summarised in this quote from the book, 'You are consulting any time you are trying to change or improve a situation but have no direct control over the implementation. If you have direct control you are managing not consulting.' In other words every time you give advice where someone has a choice you are consulting, where the key objective is to engage in successful actions that result in people or organisations managing themselves differently.
